Reserve Second Lieutenant 28th air squadron - born on December 1st 1889 in Naples, died on July 3rd 1916 in the sky over Borgo Valsugana (Trento), due to wounds received in action

bronze bust of Niutta Ugo

Grounds for the award: "During a reconnaissance among the opposing lines, having sighted two enemy aircraft, Pilot Officer Ugo Niutta attacked them without hesitation, forcing one of them to a quick descent. While being in disadvantageous conditions, he was then attacked by another aircraft, withstanding the fight with indomitable courage.

Since the spotter had been shot to death and being himself in no condition to resist an unequal attack, at a low altitude, the pilot flew over the enemy lines, facing their machine-guns with relentless daring, trying to reach our lines. Having himself been shot and lost consciousness, his aircraft crashed on a rocky mountain, thus gloriously losing his life".
