Decorated for: "Glowing example of a soldier, ardent patriot, a constant example of abnegation to his soldiers ovr whom he had a firm hand. Commander of a courageous sapper battalion of the Engineers, he joined the front line of infantry at crucial moments of the battle, and it was during three days of relentless battle that he showed great calm and scorn of danger, so keeping the resistence of his division together and invincible.

When the enemy machine-guns attacked dangerously, he retalliated with a counter-attack with those who surrrounded him and was shot in the heart. His last gesture was to incite his soldiers to put up the resistence that led them to a magnificent victory".
