Edgardo Cortese

Reserve Lieuenant, 33rd Artillery Campaign Regiment - born Naples 28 August 1897, died 15 June 1918 on Mount Asolone (Vicenza)

bronze bust of Cortese Edgardo

Decorated for: "Indomitable spirit of the proud patriot, he always sought out the most dangerous places and carried out the most difficult of battle tasks. As an exploratory patrol officer of the artillery, in was a precious example in the front line.

Wounded, he carried out his orders just the same, delivering important information, and as soon as his wounds had been dressed he returned to where the battle was fiercest. Having seen a machine-gun section with no officer in charge, he took command and put it back into action, to the great admiration of the gunners and making an effective contribution to the battle until, having been wounded several times, he died over the gun with the name of Italy on his lips".
