(06/03/2025) On 3rd of March we celebrated World Wildlife Day. This day was declared as WWD as a result of the 68th Session of the United Nations General Assembly. The aim was to raise awareness about protection of extinction-prone species and the preservation of biodiversity. It is a reminder to wake up society in terms of nature and its issues. According to data published by official website of European Commission, in 2022, 196 countries committed to work on stopping biodiversity loss by 2030 under the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework. It is worth mentioning that the outcome of the 2022 United Nations conference, known as the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework, was a set of key global targets for 2030 aimed at saving our planet. Some of the most significant ones are: - restorage 30% of all degraded ecosystems (both on land and sea);
- stop the human-caused extinction of endangered species and guarantee their recovery and protection;
- decrease the global consumption;
- reduce risk from pesticides by at least 50%.
Furthermore, we need to bear in mind that we are responsible for nature as we have enormous impact on its functioning. Alarmingly, one million species are at risk of extinction. Human activity has already drastically changed 75% of the Earth’s land surfaces, which means we have invaded almost the entire planet. In addition, more than half of the world’s GDP depends on nature, highlighting our financial reliance on healthy ecosystem. If you want to learn more about the importance of nature in our daily lives, check it out at the website at link at the bottom of the page. However, this year’s World Wildlife Day highlights the theme "Wildlife Conservation Finance: Investing in People and Planet," underlying that funding environmental conservation is an investment—not only in the planet but also in ourselves, its people, and all living beings that share our home.
