General information on using the site and its interface

It is important that the site can adapt to the needs of the individual user. This is why formal aspects (the presentation of the contents) are controlled using stylesheets combined with a percentual calculated design. The result is a "fluid" page that can adapt to the size of the screen available.

Different Browsers

The site was tested with the most popular browsers, so the support is practically universal and users can choose which they prefer.

Different resolutions

Different resolutions were tested (from 800*600 pixels and above), to get the best and most stable look throughout. Although this was a difficult call, we managed to achieve a stable layout which is fluid and doesn't have layout tabs.

Proportional measures

Proportional measures were used to work out the different font sizes. This enables the individual user to adjust the text with their own browser.
The maximum font size you can get is between 250 and 300% (tested using Internet Explorer's "very big font"), which means that even people with low vision can magnify the text to make reading easier.

Screen reader tests

To find out whether the site was really accessible to non-sighted users, we used the most popular screen reader programmes in Italy which are, in fact, the gold standard for most users: Scientific Freedom's Jaws (6.20 and 7.10 versions, which are the most commonly used in Italy) and IBM's Home Page Reader.

Skip links

To make navigation easier, we introduced skiplinks. This means you can avoid having to read through long repetitive lists (like menus) and go directly to the page contents instead.

Headings

There are different levels of headings. This means that the page can be subdivided in a logical way so that users can follow a different navigation route, moving directly from the primary content (page title) to the next content and the next in descending order of importance (in our case, the first and second level menu entries). This particular technique means that the architecture of the contents can be clearly and immediately defined.
