The Promotional Campaign dedicated to reading and to Naples City Libraries

In February a new promotional campaign to foster book reading was launched. On the 20th of that month there was a meeting between the Mayor On. Rosa Russo Iervolino, the Councillor to the Memory of the City, Dolores Feleppa Madaro, and the press in order to present the launch of the Promotional Campaign dedicated to reading and to Naples City Libraries.

Promotion

Chosen equipment includes back-projection screens and posters (belonging to the International Circuit of the City of Naples), spread over the whole city area, with the aim of making the initiative not only a means of informing and advertising but also an educational event.

Each poster, in fact, displays outstanding quotes from books of various genres and authors, indicating all specific information related to the text they have been taken from: bibliographic references (author and title), section, location and page number.

Extracts from novels, fiction and poetry, framed in this specific context and given the effect of particular graphic and communication techniques, should fascinate observers and certainly draw attention, so that they wish to know more about the sources those extracts are taken from and possibly refer to the text and the relevant the library website..

The city scenery, its colours and the chromatic characterization of the poster and its message are important and distinguishing elements of this communication, thus freeing users' imagination. Users can, indeed, be led opt for particular interpretative routes, although they are free to bring to the texts their own personal and subjective decoding, thus setting up a personal process thanks to which we can analyse how much curiosity and interest has been created and take into consideration a possible further investigation of the information provided by the poster.

Target audience

This campaign is aimed at young people, since they go to minicipal libraries, considered as "friendly places" where they can study and read, but adults are included as well, the main aim of this campaign being to communicate with all educational levels.

Organizers

The organization of this promotional campaign and the graphic project are by Luca Mòsele, art director of Vpoint Ltd., which is to be thanked for offering its professional assistance in a no-profit work. Special thanks also go to Paola Russo, Director of the IX Headquarters, Cultural, Sport and Leisure Time Department, to Paola Masucci, Director of the Library Service, and to Tiziana Liotti.

This campaign is also organized by the Library Service - IX Headquarters, Cultural, Sport and Leisure Time Department, in collaboration with the Regional Town Council of Campania - Museums and Libraries Department, regional regulations 49/74 and 4/83.
