Corrado Canero's photographic exhibition at Naples' Castel dell'Ovo, to support the Onlus Association Giovanna in aid of Madagascar.

On Thursday 22nd December, at 16:00 at the Sala delle Terrazze of Castel dell'Ovo in Naples, the opening of Corrado Canero's photographic exhibition Shooting in the Rain takes place, in collaboration with the council of Naples' department of Culture and Tourism.

The exhibition consists of a collection of photographs which portray moments in everyday life, of which rain is the protagonist; water droplets pouring on umbrellas, brushing against distracted people, falling harshly on roads and urban landscapes. They are instantaneous street photographs which capture moments, and which in doing so, lend to reality a vision of life which is at once both blurred and magical, thanks to the impact on these brought by rain itself. As affirmed by Canero himself, "I like the idea of the water that isn't just lost the moment it precipitates on our heads, but rather crosses an invisible river below ground level, and, enrichened by an impalpable type of energy, is then allowed to rise again in another corner of the world, where a small group of people who work incessantly, have been awaiting its arrival for years."

Every snapshot tells a different story: a mother who carries her daughter on her shoulders, two lovers who stroll under the rain, the lonely wandering of a vagabond. Reality is captured through the lens of the photographer who intervenes on his film with that which he describes as "the colour of love". The outcome is a series of photographic images which resemble watercolour paintings. "This is precisely because Corrado Canero's rain,"
Andrea Acampa explains in the introduction, "is not ordinary and commonplace rain, but rather a shower of lights and colours that illustrates settingsthat are ordinary and commonplace, but in a pitiless beauty."

The exhibition is inspired by the book Shooting in the Rain realised to support the Onlus Association Giovanna in aid of Madagascar, founded by Isa Monti Saracino after the passing of her diabetic daughter, who operates in Nosy be', a small island in the north-western area of Madagascar. The purpose of this initiative is to assist children affected by diabetes and by disabilities, to offer help during pregnancy and motherhood aid, prevention through the diffusion of formative material, and support to children in the poorest villages of the region, via the distribution of scholarships and learning materials. In 2010, thanks to the significant donations and the effort of volunteers, the Hell-Ville Centre Giovanna in aid of Madagascar was born, now an established landmark on the island for prevention of illness and socio-healthcare assistance.

Corrado Canero was born in Naples in 1958, and is a doctor by profession. He holds a degree in Medicine and Surgery and specialises in Obstetrical, gynaecological and endocrinosurgical medicine. For over 30 years he has cultivated his passion for photography, having also participated in numerous exhibitions throughout the Italian peninsula and abroad. For the first time at Naples' Castel dell'Ovo, he presents his photographs.
