A true fairy tale, whose disarming simplicity of the music manages to fascinate children and adults. A wonderful fairy tale. Not just a fairy tale, but a musical fairy tale! Each character is an instrument. And vice versa.
"Peter and the Wolf" was composed in 1936 by Sergei Prokofiev, one of the most famous works in the world. The protagonist is of course Peter. A disobedient boy, with a single bullet in his head: to capture the wolf! Will the help of a bird be enough?
Well ..... the final is of course a surprise!
"Peter and the Wolf" was presented for the first time in New York in 1940, in the form of ballet.
In Italy it was represented for the first time in 1950 at the Teatro alla Scala in Milan.
It quickly became famous for two reasons: first of all, because it is a very fun and catchy work; secondly, because when Prokofiev wrote it for the audience of the children's theater in Moscow, the main goal was to bring children closer to the music.
"Peter and the Wolf" is a kind of music lesson. The real actors on the stage are musical instruments, in fact, that with their notes they give voice to the characters of the story: the bird flute, oboe duck, the cat clarinet, bassoon grandfather, the three horns are the wolf, all arcs are Peter, while the timpani and bass drum are the hunters. That's why "Peter and the Wolf" can be listened to and watched: it is show within the show, where characters can be recognized by their "voices" and the sound of each instrument can be discovered.
