The last magic of Sik-Sik

Friday, February 21st, at 6.00pm great event at the San Domenico Maggiore Convent: projection, after more than 50 years from its release, of the comedy "Sik-Sik l'artefice magico" (Sik-Sik the magic artificer) written in 1962 by Eduardo De Filippo. The projection will be followed by images of the play.
It represents a record that was believed to be lost, and that was miraculously found.
 
The initiative, which will be accompanied by a speech by Andrea Camilleri (who edited in 1962 the tv programme), is organized by the Department for Culture of the City of Naples in collaboration with RAI, with the Association Pietrasanta Polo Culturale and De Filippo Foundation.The event represents the first event in occasion of the thirty years since Eduardo's death.
 
 
 
 
 

SIK-SIK, the magic artificier (1929)
Sik-Sik performs as a magician in a third-rate theater with his wife, Georgetta, who in pregnant. One night, his godfather Nicola, who confused himself among the audience in order to ensure the success of Sik Sik's triks, misses the show so that he is replaced by Rafele, a person chosen at random. Nicola arrives at the show, he has an argument with Rafele. The two helpers lose the rigged lock for the trick of the disappearance of Georgetta and of the white dove. The trick goes wrong, Georgetta is freed by her husband and suddenly under Rafele's hat a black chicken, instead of the white dove, appears.
 
 
 
Eduardo De Filippo
Eduardo De Filippo was bornon the 24th of May in 1900, he was Eduardo Scarpetta and Luisa De Filippo's son. His debute can be dated back to 1904, when he performed as a Japanese child in the play "The Geisha" written by his father.
In 1914 he joined his step-brother's theater company, where he stayed until 1920.
In 1931, together with his brother Peppino and his sister Titina, he founded the theater company "Theatre Humorous I De Filippo". During this period he wrote: "Natale in Casa Cupiello" (1931) and "Chi è cchiù felice 'e me?" (1932).
In 1945 he wrote"Napoli milionaria (Naples Millionaire)" and finally parted ways with Peppino two to artistic disagreements. He then founded the "Compagnia di Eduardo".
In November 1980 he received an honorary degree in letters from the University of Rome in 1981 and he was appointed senator for life. He died in Rome in 1984.
