Voices Against Crime. A new United Nations initiative with the City of Naples

Voci contro il Crimine

"Voices against Crime" (Voci contro il Crimine) is a project developed by the United Nations Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute (UNICRI) in cooperation with the City of Naples and with the participationof the newspaper Il Mattino and Fanpage.
 
 
The initiative aims to give voice to victims of crime through the collection of their stories and to learn more about it in their local context. The analysis of the collected stories allows to explore those elements of vulnerability of citizenship, as well as promoting the action of the local and national authorities through the identification of the best practices aimed to combat crime and to give assistance to the victims.
 
 
The involvement of citizens is a central element of the project, whichaims to develop a greater sensitivity and attention to the victims, promoting future actions of prevention and assistance. The aim of the project is to create in Naples a similar program to the initiatives developed by other cities of the world.
 
 
The project, proposed by the Institute for the United Nations Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute (UNICRI), obtained the membership of local institutions and the major media outlets of the area. Other organizations of Naples joined the project. These organizations are involved in crime prevention, dissemination of the culture of lagality and assistance to the victims.

UNICRI is the Institute of the United Nations that develops applied research, training, technical cooperation and dissemination of information on crime prevention and justice. Since its creation in 1969, it focused its efforts to strengthen the institutions and the construction or restoration of justice systems in line with international standards. The Institute also promoted the adoption of effective policies to prevent and combat crime and to develop the culture of human rights. Great attention is paid to assisting crime victims, particularly women and children, and to the protection of minors.
