The Carlos V Hall at Castel Nuovo of Naples will hostthe international photography exhibition "Sens&A(c)tions. From Cuba toSenegal ". The exhibition will open on Monday, February, 10th at 4.30 p.m.
Ihosvany Plasencia Pascal is an emerging photographerborn in Matanzas (Cuba). Umberto Astarita approached to photography over twentyyears ago, he carries out, with his friend and collaborator Claudio Celentano, humanitarian projects in Senegal with the Non Profit Association"Energia" for Human Rights. The exhibition represents the meetingpoint between two different cultures, the Cuban, that is still tied to theideologies of the past and that at the same time is open to modern models, andthe African one, whose people face everyday problems with dignity and vitality. The main symbol that, according to the popular imagination, identify the islandof Cuba are presented in Pascal's photos: the flapping flag with the stars, thecigar, Che Guevara's herm. Another point must be made, all the elements areretaken not in a banal way, but employing a special point of view. Moresubjects of his photos are women winter twined into colorful clothes andchildren in front of the monuments and ruins of the old district. The samehappens for Senegal as well, its stories are presented through women's facesand children's eyes and the vibrant colors that shine on a dark skin. However, the landscape is different, since we move from the city to the village and thedominant colors are those that define the earth. As the title suggests, the aimof the exhibition is to convey "feelings", highlighting the states ofmind (where the sense are understood as feelings) and motions (actions) of twonations that have many things in common.
"Sens&A(c)tions. From Cuba to Senegal"was born as a traveling exhibit, in fact, it was already exposed at VillaFondi De Sangro at Piano di Sorrento and at the Chiostro of San Francesco inSorrento.
The photography exhibition, which was organized byCryteria Project, is a part of the cultural activities program sponsored by theCity of Naples.
