San Giovanni a Carbonara
A babà in the garden of Ladislao The Magnanimous
The babà (leavened rum cake), the eighteenth-century dish for over three centuries, is the undisputed bastion of Neapolitan pastry. The cake
opens the guided tour of S. Giovanni a Carbonara, the church like no other in the city able to reveal in detail the elements of which it was made thanks to the Naples transition from Gothic to Renaissance. In front of the church, there is the park of Ladislas in Carbonara, a "ortus conclusus" for cultivation of herbs and fruit trees. A hidden garden in the heart of one of the most chaotic areas of the city.

Aperitif

Monumental Complex of St. Catherine Formiello
An octopus soup under the shade of the cloisters
O' brodo 'e purpo (the octopus soup) in the emblem dish of Porta capuana. Seasoned with pepper and pieces of fresh boiled octopus, this delicious dish has its own historical roots beyond the walls of Aragon. Excellent replacement of the once most expensive beef broth, this soup can tell in one gulp the story of an entire neighborhood. The soup has its artistic parallel, the monumental complex of St. Catherine in Formello. The church, built in the vicinity of the ancient aqueduct of formal Bubble, among the most representative expressions of the Renaissance in Italy. Residence of the ancient and noble tombs, it presents two very special annexes to its cloisters.

The church, built in the vicinity of the ancient aqueduct of formal Bubble, among the most representative expressions of the Renaissance in Italy. Residence of the ancient and noble tombs, it presents two very special annexes to its cloisters. The biggest one, the cloister of Cedrangoli, outlines a 'somewhat intricate mingling of places: the hermitage of Celestine, a hospice for the sick, the monastery of the town and mill military. A charming environment, today a unique example of industrial archeology, able to describe four centuries of change.

Lunch

Porta Capuana
Pizza intra moenia
The word "pizza" was uttered for the first time in Naples in Porta Capuana and long before the ubiquitous pizza baked in the oven, it was fried. Associated with pizza, there the Porta (Gate), the fifteenth-century turreted arch that marked the boundary between the inside and the outside of the city. Commissioned by Ferrante of Aragon, overlooking the historic Castel Capuano: royal residence, then a noble, court and prison, an indisputable symbol of a turbulent part of the history of Naples.

Connected to Central Station, subways, motorways and the airport, if properly upgraded, Porta Capuana may still be an excellent access point to the old center.
