European Days of Heritage - 29/30 september 2012

MUSEUM OF CAPODIMONTE, 29th september 6.00pm
ASTRONOMICAL OBSERVATORY, 29th september 9.00pm

'Art and Astronomy: talks on Capodimonte hill'

During the European Days of Heritage 2012, the Superintender of the museum Pole of Naples, Fabrizio Vona and the superintender Director of Astronomical Observatory of Capodimonte, Massimo Della Valle, will have an original talk where Art and Science will join at close range.
The talk comes from a careful observation on the artworks of Capodimonte Museum that presents astronomical references and of precious scientifics volumes and antiques instruments kept in the Observatory.
Among the artworks of Capodimonte, for example, on the medal that Galeazzo Sanvitale -painted by Parmigianino- keeps in the right hand, it's carved the n° 72 that on the Cabala it's the symbol of aligining of the stars between the Sun and the Moon; in the Scene of sacrifice, pictured by Pontormo, majority of critics believes that is represented a sacrifice to the God of Sun; on the paintings, the insxcription TIBI. SOLI. DEO.S.O. was interpreted as "A te Dio Sole".
It's about a brilliant way completed by scientific- cultural divagations, seraching for increasingly new references between Art and Astronomy that will end with the observation of the sky through telescopes of Astronimical Observatory of Capodimonte.
Astronomy was, for centuries, considered" the science" par excellence, searching for answers to the human's misteries through the study of cosmos. Artworks have kept and passed on us several tracks of coeval astronomical conceptions, discovered during this special occasion.

'Giovanni Lanfranco, a great drawer' - exhibition catalogue 29th september, 5.00pm

The Superintendent for the museum Pole of Naples, Fabrizio Vona presents the catalogue of monographical exhibition dedicated to the drawings of Giovanni Lanfranco (Parma 1582 - Roma 1647), exhibited to the Museum of Capodimonte , at the second floor: sixty masterpieces selected by corpus lanfranchiano composed by 476 drawings, kept in the Gabinetto and Stamps of Capodimonte.
The exhibition runs by the whole career of the emilian painter: from the studies for the paintings more antiques, to the airy romans inventions for Sant' Andrea della Valle and the Casino Borghese untill the great cycles of wall paintings of the neapolitan decade such as the Dome of Gesù Nuovo and Chapel of Treasure of San Gennaro and the Churches Certosa of San Martino and of SS. Apostoli.
In the refined subjects on the painting and wall painting, made between Naples and Rome, during the the first fifty years of seventeenth century, Giovanni Lanfranco opened the way to the decorators of following generations as Pietro da Cortona and  Luca Giordano. The emilian Magister, one of the more prolific painters of his time, worked on extended pictorial surfaces, thanks to an effective method of work based on the drawing that reduced at minimum the interventation of collaborators.

In occasion of the Europeen Days of Heritage, the Museum of Ceramic Duca di Martina, opens a cycle of conversations dedicated to the classical myth of Arcadia during the the modern era; meeting will last, monthly, untill the end of may 2013.
The persistance of classical myth of Arcadia during the modern era in Europe, as place of inner and as cultural ideal of european aristocracy between the XVI and XVII century, shows itself as a crossroads of poetry, narrative, theater, pictorial productions and music opera. The costant decanting of the same materia according to different fields, produced a density of homogeneus tunes and so a common immaginary: from woody landscapes to the porcelains of Meissen, Capodimonte and Sèvres, unitll going to the mass communication world, to the small sheeps appeared during the advertisement of RAI.
