Festivals and events related to the sea

In the waters of the Gulf, wonderful natural setting of the city of Naples, every year, there are numerous sporting activities, as the famous and ancient Capri-Naples, sailing regattas, swimming and canoeing (such as the Lysistrata Cup) competitions, the Italian offshore powerboat Championship. In addition, there are numerous military parades and religious events that take place every year in the beautiful setting of the Gulf of Naples.

Capri-Naples

The famous Gulf Marathon - Bancodi Napoli trophy, now in its 45th edition, is scheduled for Sunday, June 27th departing from Capri and arriving in Naples in the waters of fthe Rotonda Diaz of Via Caracciolo. The big news of this year, to celebrate the 45th edition, is the starting location which will be the Nettuno Club of Caprinear the Grotta Azzurra (Blue Grotto). The race will be 23 miles long and 27 athletes coming from 12 Nations will take part to the event.

Lysistrata Cup

It took place on May 16th,2010 the 101° edition of the Lysistrata Cup, Italy's oldest rowing regatta organized by the Circolo del Remo e Vela Napoli on the stretch of beach along Via Caracciolo. The special feature of this edition consisted in the boatsthat played: gigs, antique wooden boats with almost two centuries of history, ideal for racing at sea.

Italian Navy

Every June, 10th, the Navy celebrates its festival in Naples in memory of the expedition "Premuda", with a naval parade in the Gulf of Naples to the presence of the President of the Republic, as a sign of gratitude for the attention and affection that the whole country turns to the Armed Forces.
 

St. Anne's day - July 26th

Every year since 1932 in the water in front of the Castello Aragonese, St. Anne's day takes place. A parade of boats decorated with drawings and allegorical representations that culminates with a magnificent show of fireworks.

Saint Lucia's day - December 13th

Every year in St. Lucia village in Naples, on the 12th and 13th of December the celebrations of the martyrdom of the Saint take place. The statue of Saint Lucia, made ​​from silver ex-voto of the faithful to her devotees, is carried from the church of Saint Lucia al Monte to the sea and from there carried in procession on boats up to Castel dell' Ovo. This ritual establishes a close link between the ancient and holy protector of the eyes and a harbinger of light with the Bay of Naples and its fishermen, with its light, in fact, it illuminates the dark nights and guides the return of the fishermen. At the dawn of the following day, along the route that leads to the church of Saint Lucia, a battery of fires is set, it precedes the procession of the faithful who are preparing to leave their homes with candles and sparklers to symbolize the light of the Martyr that pervades the dark of night. On December, 13th, Massesare celebrated every hour until 6.30pm, when the Cardinal closes the celebration with the last fireworks display.
