Laws and regulations

The current legislation (Legislative Decree May 30th, 2008 n.116) provides that the bodies of water can be:

- Bathing (areas where the results of the analysis is below the legal thresholds for all parameters considered);
- Temporarily not bathing (or zones for which the outcome of the analysis is above the threshold law for at least one of the parameters considered);
- Not swimming (not allowed areas since they undergo decontamination measures and monitoring verification).

The Regional Agency for Environmental Protection of Campania, is in charge of monitoring the quality of the marine waters of the region, through sampling and analysis. When water pollution is confirmed, the Mayor, upon notice of the ARPAC, emits order for temporary prohibition on bathing by a special act.

The ban is revoked depending on the results of the analysis, which are then carried out in the affected area, using standard procedures, in order to evaluate their suitability.
