The Centre of environmental education (C.E.A.) "Cratere degli Astroni" is a center of services that has the aim of realizing programs of environmental education, to spread a bigger sensibility towards the environment. Established by The Ministry of the Environment, in realization of the law 41/86, the centre is runned by the Assessorship of Education and Culture of the Campania Region. In 1991 the Region entrusted it to WWF Italy.
The C.E.A. offers programs of environmental education, addressed to schools of every kind, divided into seminars, guided tours, educatinal path, refresher and training courses for teachers. The project "Giovani Esploratori del Bosco" (GEB) has been opened since 2000, it is addressed to children who are keen on Nature. The project is divided into two years editions: the spring edition, with a laboratory that takes place on saturdays afternoon, and the summer edition, at the closing of the school year, with thematic weekly laboratories.
The C.E.A.'s activity takes place above all in the inner of the oasis and in the area of the Regional Park of Flegrei Fields. The main element of every activities of the C.E.A. is the full immersion in the natural environment of the Oasis and of the Regional Park of Flegrei Fields, but other important historical-archaelogical-mitological aspects of the area are not ignored.
The C.E.A. has structures and equipments that let every visitors have laboratory experiences, examination of animals, vegetable and mineral finds under the microscope, and in addition a video-library containing over 1.500 texts for researches and documentations of environmental themes.
